30 June 2025 : Several workers have been killed after a suspected reactor explosion caused a fire in a chemical factory in Telangana. As per officials, the incident took place at the Sigachi Chemical Industry in Pashamylaram on Monday.
“The incident took place at Sigachi Pharma Company, Pasamailaram Phase 1. Eleven fire tenders have reached the site. Nearly 15-20 people have been injured. Further details awaited,” Telangana Fire Officials told reporters.
Death toll uncertain
While Hindustan Times confirmed at least eight people were killed, local media has stated at least 10 workers have been killed in the blast.
Earlier on, news agency PTI also reported that 10 workers had been killed in the blast. However, an official confirmation is awaited.
With rescue operations underway, the detailed toll will be released by officials soon.
Speaking to ANI, the Superintendent of Police of Sangareddy, Paritosh Pankaj said that rescue efforts are underway to recover bodies from the plant.
“Till now we haven’t recovered any bodies, rescue operation is going on, we will update in some time,” said the police official.
Reason behind blast under probe
While the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, officials have stated that the incident may have been caused by a reactor blast.
Moments after the explosion, workers in the plant were rushed out and evacuated. However, due to the intensity of the blast, many have been killed, injured, and some are feared dead.
