Train from Amritsar to Bihar catches fire at Sirhind station

October 18, 2025 : At Punjab’s Sirhind railway station, a sudden fire broke out in the Garib Rath Express. The fire caused panic and chaos on the train. Fortunately, all passengers were safely evacuated.

Railway police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and brought the fire under control. SHO Ratan Lal of Sirhind GRP stated that people noticed smoke coming from one of the train coaches, after which the train was stopped. Regarding the incident, the Railway Ministry said, “This morning, a fire broke out in one coach of train number 12204, Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath, at Sirhind station in Punjab. No one was injured. The fire has been extinguished.”

Seeing the flames, the train pilot applied the emergency brake, stopping the train. Passengers quickly collected their belongings and got off. During the rush to evacuate, some passengers sustained minor injuries. Railway and police teams reached the site immediately and, after about an hour of effort, brought the fire under control.

What did the railway say?
Northern Railway issued a statement regarding the incident, saying that while passing through the station, a fire broke out in train number 12204, Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath. Immediate action was taken to stop the train, and the fire was extinguished. One passenger sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at a hospital. The railway also stated that there were no casualties and that the train will depart soon.

According to passengers, the train had just left Sirhind station at 7 a.m. when a passenger noticed smoke coming from coach number 19. He immediately raised an alarm and pulled the chain. As flames started to appear along with the smoke, panic erupted among the passengers.
