12 Sep 2025 : US President Donald Trump has been trolled for attending the New York Yankees game and dancing to ‘YMCA’ on Thursday night, a day after his close ally Charlie Kirk was assassinated in Utah.
Trump, wearing his signature suit and red tie, was seated next to Yankees team president Randy Levine and chatted with him throughout the game. He was also seen sitting by himself at other times during the game.
Trump’s attendance at the game also came on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Later, when ‘YMCA’ was played at the stadium, the President was seen dancing to the music while seated in his seat. He was singing along to the lyrics in between and moving both his arms in his ‘dance’.
The New York Yankees paid a tribute to Charlie Kirk and observed a moment of silence in his honour before Thursday’s game.
What netizens said about Trump’s dance?
However, Trump’s cheery mood drew a mixed reaction. Some netizens lauded his attempts to keep the spirits up at a time when the entire nation was enduring the shock of Kirk’s tragic death, and marking the 9/11 anniversary. While others trolled Trump for dancing instead of grieving the death of his close aide.
Reacting to the videos of his dance on social media, one of the users commented, “Charlie Kirk dies, Trump shows up at the Yankees game. Only in America does politics mix grief, baseball, and bulletproof glass in one inning.”
“I’m sorry, I’m still not there yet. There isn’t anything that’s funny right now,” said another.
“Trump should not have been so happy yet; the country has not yet recovered from the shock of Charlie kirk death,” another posted on X.
Another person wrote, “Yeah, we’re not gonna forget this. But thanks for trying.”
Netizens expressed deep disappointment with Trump’s actions. “Does this dude have any genuine feelings about anything? Now isn’t the time to be dancing to YMCA.”
“Trump looks really shook up about the loss of his white nationalist buddy Charlie Kirk,” a user commented below the video of the President’s dance.
Some other comments read: “One of his good friends died and thus us how he acts. Also it’s 9/11”; “Dancing so soon after his friend was murdered? Tad bit unseemly isn’t it?”
“Yeah, for all those who said he’s sad that Kirk died…. he’s so selfish centered,” a comment said. “The world is on the brink of war, economy is shit and he’s dancing at a ball game. There have been multiple shootings, political unrest, child rape victims and about to have a shutdown,” wrote another.
Trump on Charlie Kirk’s death
Donald Trump had confirmed the news of Charlie Kirk’s passing in a post on Truth Social, calling him “the great, even legendary”. He also said that no one understood or had the heart of the youth in the US the way Kirk did.
Trump blamed the ‘radical left’ for the conservative leader’s killing and vowed to punish every individual involved in the incident.
Summary : Former President Trump was trolled online for dancing to YMCA at a Yankees game, just a day after Charlie Kirk’s death, drawing criticism from social media users.
