October 15, 2025 :Police on Thursday arrested two men for impersonation during a Bank Probationary Officer (PO) exam. The accused were identified as Sachin and Bikram, both residents of Punjab.
According to police, Sachin, who was the actual candidate, allegedly arranged for Bikram to appear in the examination as his scribe using a fake disability certificate. The incident came to light when exam officials verified their Aadhaar details during the document check and found discrepancies.
Following the discovery, both men were detained and handed over to the police. The examination centre staff immediately alerted the authorities after confirming that the disability certificate presented by Sachin was forged.
SHO Satvinder Singh said a case has been registered under Section 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “Both individuals were attempting to cheat during the exam by misusing the facility meant for differently-abled candidates,” the SHO said.
DSP Harsimran Bal confirmed that both accused have been arrested and that further investigation is underway. Police said evidence, including documents and admission cards, has been seized for verification.
