Under the 69th District-Level School Games for the year 2026–27, weightlifting competitions for boys and girls in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories were organised with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship at Government Senior Secondary School, Harchowal. The competitions were held under the guidance of District Education Officer Rajesh Kumar Sharma and District Sports Coordinator Smt. Anita.
The competitions were inaugurated by Arjuna Awardee Sardar Baldev Singh, School Principal Sardar Lakhwinder Singh, Head Teacher Nirmal Singh, members of Sankalp Sanstha and Dr. Gurwinder Pal Singh. On the occasion, the players displayed their sporting talent with great enthusiasm, discipline, hard work and determination.
In the Under-17 girls’ category, Simran Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Harchowal, secured first position by lifting 110 kg. Similarly, in different weight categories, Ruby lifted 72 kg, Palvi 80 kg, Suneha 80 kg, Mehakdeep Kaur 130 kg, and Richa 105 kg, securing first positions in their respective categories.
In the boys’ category, Gursimran Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Harchowal, secured first position at the district level in the 56-kg weight category by lifting 135 kg. In different weight categories, Udamjot Singh lifted 93 kg, Gurveer Singh 117 kg, Bilawal Singh 50 kg, Fateh Singh 155 kg, and Sehajpreet Singh 135 kg, securing first positions in their respective categories.
In the Under-19 boys’ category, Amritpal Singh lifted 110 kg, Harsharan Singh Chahal of Kothi Athwal lifted 150 kg, and Rohitpreet Singh lifted 160 kg to secure first positions in their respective categories.
To ensure the successful conduct of the competitions, Lecturer Amarjit Singh, Lecturer Rajwinder Kaur, D.P.E. Pawandeep Singh, D.P.E. Kuldeep Kaur, D.P.E. Sandeep Kaur, D.P.E. Harpreet Kaur and Deputy Jatinder Kumar performed their assigned duties with full responsibility and dedication on behalf of the district.
The entire school staff was also present on the occasion, including Lecturer Ramandeep Kaur, Lecturer Kanwaldeep Kaur, Satnam Singh, Gurkamaldeep Singh, Subeg Singh, Amandeep Khokhar, Sarwan Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Major Singh, Sandeep Kaur, Kulbir Kaur, Ritika Mahajan, Rajbir Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur, Rupinderjit Kaur, Anjali and Kawaljit Kaur.
During the competitions, the players showcased their hard work, discipline, self-confidence and sporting talent. The organisers congratulated the winning players and extended their best wishes for a bright future. They said that sports play an important role in developing discipline, self-confidence, team spirit and a strong personality among students.
