Ferozepur, August 7, 2026:
As per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Punjab commenced on June 25 and will continue until October 12, 2026. The first phase, comprising house-to-house enumeration, was successfully completed in Ferozepur district on August 3, informed District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ms. Deepti Sharma, IAS.
The District Election Officer said that the successful completion of the first phase was made possible through the dedicated efforts of 903 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 91 Supervisors, 4 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and the election staff, who worked tirelessly. She also expressed gratitude to political parties and the media for their cooperation.
Sharing the district’s progress report, she stated that out of a total 717,773 registered voters, 663,744 enumeration forms have been received and digitized, accounting for 92.47% of the electorate. Enumeration forms for the remaining 54,029 voters have not been received. Among these, the primary reasons include:
- 20,707 voters are reported to have passed away.
- 24,442 voters have permanently shifted their residence to other cities or locations.
The District Election Officer further informed that if a voter’s name does not appear in the draft electoral roll, they may submit Form 6 to their Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO) between August 13 and September 12, 2026 (a 30-day claims and objections period) to seek inclusion.
She added that the draft electoral roll will be published on August 13, 2026, and copies will be provided to all recognized political parties. The draft voter list will also be available at the District Election Office, the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers, and with the Booth Level Officers.
The District Election Officer said that notices will be issued from August 13 to the 35,251 voters whose voter records remain unmapped. In response to these notices, voters may submit any one of the 12 documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India, such as a birth certificate or an educational qualification certificate, to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO). After due verification and hearings, the ERO will pass appropriate orders, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 12, 2026.
She also informed that the number of polling stations in Ferozepur district has increased from 903 to 932, with 29 new polling booths added following the rationalization exercise carried out as per the Election Commission’s guidelines.
Appealing to the residents of the district, representatives of political parties, and members of the media, the District Election Officer urged everyone to continue extending the same level of cooperation during the next phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) so that the process can be completed successfully.
