Rupnagar, 23 June 2025 : Under the directives issued by Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Rupnagar district administration held a high-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) today in the committee room of the District Administrative Complex as part of a major campaign to eliminate drug abuse. During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varjit Walia and Senior Superintendent of Police S. Gulneet Singh Khurana issued instructions to all SDMs and DSPs to form village-level committees, raise awareness among misled youth, motivate them to seek treatment, and share information about drug peddlers.
While leading the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed Civil Surgeon Dr. Balwinder Kaur to ensure the availability of essential equipment, medicines, testing kits, and adequate staff at all de-addiction centres and OST clinics across the district. He emphasized that counseling sessions, both medical and technical, should be conducted to build self-confidence among patients suffering from drug addiction.
He added that in order to implement the anti-drug campaign effectively at the grassroots level and to completely eliminate drugs from Rupnagar district, widespread action is being taken against drug smugglers with the help of the public, and efforts are being made to guide and treat misguided youth. All officials were urged to perform their assigned duties diligently to ensure the success of this mission.
On the occasion, SSP S. Gulneet Singh Khurana directed the Health Department to ensure full stock of drug test kits so that legal action can be taken against every arrested accused. He also instructed police officials to act promptly on suggestions and information provided by surveillance committees.
He appealed to the general public to report drug-related information via Safe Punjab Chatbot or WhatsApp number 9779100200. The identity of the informant remains confidential, and information can be shared only through a message, after which prompt action is taken.
