Punjab Govt Offers ₹1 Lakh Reward to Drug-Free Villages

Bathinda 26 June 2025 : The Punjab government is making a significant move to strengthen healthcare facilities in rural areas. In collaboration with the Punjab Health Systems Corporation and the Public Works Department (PWD), various health infrastructure projects worth crores of rupees will be developed across the district. These include Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Health and Wellness Centres, Blood Storage Rooms, De-addiction Centres, and upgrades in the Civil Hospital.

According to official data, rural areas suffer from inadequate healthcare services, forcing residents to travel long distances for treatment. This delay often worsens critical conditions. Overburdened district and sub-divisional hospitals also lead to long waiting hours for patients. To address these challenges, the Punjab government has approved several new projects to boost rural health infrastructure:

  • A Primary Health Centre will be built in village Jeeda at a cost of ₹2.76 crore.
  • A Blood Storage Room will be set up in Bhagta Bhai Ka with ₹46 lakh.
  • A new block will be constructed in the Rampura Phul Sub-Divisional Hospital for ₹5.90 crore.
  • Another PHC will be developed in Maiserkhana village at ₹3.39 crore.
  • A De-addiction Centre will be established in Central Jail Bathinda for ₹63 lakh.

Additionally, PWD Division-1 and Division-2 will jointly construct Health and Wellness Centres worth ₹7.68 crore in various villages.

  • In Jyond, Dayalpur, Raiya, Jalal, Salabatpura, Burj Laddi, Kamalu, construction worth ₹2.21 crore will be undertaken.
  • In Ganga, Jodhpur Pakhar, Gyana, Singo, Bhagiwandar, Kalalwala, Pathrala, Dhion, Harraipur, Abloo, Mehma Sarja, Balluana, Nandgarh, Jaggaram Tirath, Nangal, centres worth ₹5.47 crore will be set up.

In Bathinda Civil Hospital, ₹3.11 crore will be spent on building a new pharmacy, control room, canteen, and storage room. The current shortage of space for medicine storage has led to drugs being kept outside, risking spoilage. With this new infrastructure, proper storage and better amenities for patients and attendants will be ensured.

Furthermore, the Health Department is expanding telemedicine services in rural areas with an investment of ₹2 crore. This aims to make specialist consultations accessible in remote villages.

Currently, the district has 46 Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics, 11 of which have been upgraded to Ayushman Arogya Kendras. In total, 126 Health and Wellness Centres and 17 Primary Health Centres are operational. These centres offer treatment for general illnesses, maternal and child health services, adolescent care, treatment for TB and leprosy, 80 essential medicines, and basic diagnostic services.

With these new centres and upgrades, the government aims to make quality healthcare accessible near people’s homes, reduce the load on urban hospitals, and improve health outcomes across rural Punjab.

Summary: Punjab government announces ₹1 lakh grant for one drug-free village per block, aiming to boost anti-drug efforts and promote healthier rural communities.
