Faridkot, 26 June 2025: District Magistrate of Faridkot, Madam Poonamdeep Kaur (IAS), has issued several prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. These restrictions will remain in effect until August 16, 2025. The following bans have been enforced across the district:
Ban on Aerial Firing at Events
Aerial firing during weddings, social or religious events, rallies, and in marriage palaces is strictly prohibited in the district. This decision aims to prevent any threat to life and property.
Ban on Sale and Use of Chinese Kite String (China Dor)
The sale, storage, and use of Chinese kite string is completely banned. China Dor, made from plastic instead of cotton thread, poses serious risks such as cutting fingers, injuring cyclists and two-wheeler riders, and harming both humans and birds. Due to its hazardous nature, the ban will remain in effect till August 16.
Ban on Hookah Bars
A complete ban has been imposed on the operation of hookah bars in shops, hotels, restaurants, and all public places across the district.
Ban on Purchase and Use of Military-Colored Uniforms and Vehicles
Civilians are prohibited from buying, selling, or using military-colored uniforms and vehicles. Additionally, unauthorized hoardings in public places, except government-sanctioned boards, are also banned within municipal areas.
Ban on Unregistered Ambulances
Ambulances operating without registration or permits are banned. Many such vehicles lack essential medical facilities and exploit poor patients by charging arbitrary fees. This measure is aimed at safeguarding public health and preventing unrest.
Ban on Pigeon Flying Competitions
Organizing pigeon flying competitions (kabootarbazi) has been banned. These events have been reported to violate the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (Sections 3 and 11). The Supreme Court has also classified such competitions as illegal. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved.
These restrictions are aimed at maintaining public safety and law and order and will remain in force across Faridkot district until August 16, 2025. Violators will face strict legal action.
Summary: Authorities have issued strict orders banning aerial firing, sale of Chinese kite string, and operation of hookah bars to ensure public safety and order.
