Heavy Rain Alert in Punjab: Advisory Issued for Six Affected Districts

21 July 2025 : Heavy rainfall is currently being experienced across Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh alert regarding the situation. Since the night of July 20, heavy rain has been lashing the northern and eastern parts of Punjab. This weather pattern is expected to continue for the next three days, with warnings of heavy rainfall from July 21 to 23.

On July 21, there is a high likelihood of very heavy rain (12 cm or more) in the districts of Chandigarh, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Rupnagar, as well as the surrounding areas.

Rainfall recorded so far includes:

  • Chandigarh: 1.1 mm
  • Amritsar: 13.2 mm
  • Ludhiana: 0.6 mm
  • Patiala: 0.2 mm
  • SBS Nagar: 1.2 mm
  • Ferozepur: 2.5 mm
  • Moga and Ropar: 0.5 mm each

During this period, the daytime temperatures in most parts of Punjab have been recorded between 32°C to 34°C.

It is worth noting that the monsoon is at its peak across various parts of the country. Starting July 21, the weather in Delhi-NCR is also expected to change. According to Skymet Weather, rainfall may resume in Delhi-NCR, covering Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Some areas may receive heavy rain while others may experience light showers. Due to recent heat and humidity, temperatures had soared to 35°C, but are now expected to drop back to around 32°C, with minimum temperatures hovering around 25–26°C.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on July 21, there may be light drizzle, rain, and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds. IMD has issued a weather update valid till July 26, predicting intermittent heavy and light rainfall across regions. No major changes in temperature are expected, and wind speeds could reach around 35 km/h or more.

Summary: The weather department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours across six Punjab districts. Residents are advised to stay cautious and avoid waterlogged areas.
