Paytm founder warns of AI risks in WhatsApp groups, privacy threatened

21 Aug 2025 : If you use WhatsApp, this is an important update for you. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma has issued a major warning regarding the privacy of WhatsApp group chats. In a post on X (Twitter), he claimed that WhatsApp’s AI can read your chats, which could put your private conversations at risk. After his post, several questions have been raised about WhatsApp’s AI feature.

Paytm Founder’s Claim and Solution

In his post, Vijay Shekhar Sharma said that if you are in a WhatsApp group, AI can monitor your conversations. He also explained how to stay safe from this risk. He shared a screenshot showing a feature called “Advanced Chat Privacy.” He advised users to enable this feature immediately, since it is turned off by default.

WhatsApp’s Response – Denies Allegations

WhatsApp responded to Sharma’s post, saying the claim is not entirely true. According to the company, Meta AI can only read chats where it has been tagged, meaning only in places where users intentionally engage it. WhatsApp also reiterated that all messages are end-to-end encrypted, which means only you and the people in the chat can read or share them.

How to Turn On Advanced Chat Privacy

If you want to keep your group chats even more secure, here’s how to enable the Advanced Chat Privacy feature:

  1. Open the WhatsApp group.
  2. Tap on the group name.
  3. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see this feature.
  4. Tap to turn it on.

Summary:
Paytm founder cautioned users about AI threats in WhatsApp groups, highlighting potential privacy risks and misuse of personal chats, urging vigilance and safer digital communication practices.
