Punjab CM Mann Government Issues Strict Directives for Selected Districts

Jalandhar/Chandigarh 17 Sep 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to carry out extensive health check-ups and sanitation campaigns in the flood-affected districts. The Chief Minister stated that after floodwaters recede, the risk of disease spreading among humans and animals increases, which requires special attention from the government.

He informed that so far, more than 1.5 lakh people have received health check-ups and treatment through health camps set up in flood-affected villages. These camps have detected a large number of cases of fever, diarrhea, skin diseases, and other illnesses. Additionally, a special health care campaign started on September 14, under which medical camps have been set up in all 2,303 affected villages. The Chief Minister said that ASHA workers have reached 2.47 lakh households and distributed health kits containing basic medicines such as ORS, mosquito repellent, paracetamol, chlorine tablets, and soap.

He added that under a 21-day fogging and mosquito control campaign, larva is being destroyed village by village. Emphasis is also being placed on cleaning villages, lanes, and ponds, with orders to complete this by September 21. The Animal Husbandry Department has treated 14,780 animals so far and provided free vaccination to 48,535 animals. Dead animals from the floods are being safely disposed of to prevent soil and water contamination.

The Chief Minister said that potassium permanganate is being distributed to animal owners to keep cattle enclosures and water troughs infection-free. He advised farmers to regularly clean the hooves and udders of their animals. Mann clarified that 24-hour control rooms are active in the affected areas, and farmers are being provided advice through mobile phones. He also directed immediate repair of water supply pipelines and regular testing and chlorination of water to prevent waterborne diseases.

The Chief Minister said that providing relief to people during this crisis is the government’s top priority, and all departments are working in close coordination to achieve this.
