Delhi, December 3, 2024 (Navroze Bureau) – If a woman is experiencing a delay in her periods, heavy bleeding during periods, or unbearable pain, it could be a sign of endometriosis. Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, which is normally found inside the uterus, starts growing outside the uterus in other parts of the body. Over time, this tissue can become scar tissue, which may later turn into cancer or cause problems like infertility in women.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, a senior pathologist at the Joint Sub-District Hospital in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, mentioned in a conversation with Local 18 that patients with endometrial lesions regularly visit his clinic. However, many of them are unaware of their condition. As a result, they take various medications without identifying the root cause of the problem.
How Scar Tissue Forms: Dr. Vikas explained that endometriosis is a health issue in women where the endometrial tissue, usually found inside the uterus, begins to grow outside the uterus. This causes severe pain for women, as the tissue thickens with each period and eventually breaks down. Since there is no way for this tissue to exit the body, it becomes trapped inside, causing intense pain, particularly during periods. The surrounding tissue is pressured, and scar tissue starts to form, which can later turn into cancer.
Consult a Doctor: Dr. Vikas further advised that if any woman notices these symptoms, she should immediately consult a doctor and get tested by a pathologist. If the disease is caught early, treatment is possible. Surgery can be done to treat it. If the problem is not identified in time, it could later become a major issue, potentially developing into cancer.
Summary: The statement advises not to overlook period-related problems, as they may be indicative of cancer. It encourages awareness of the symptoms.
