Punjab government announces new update for women availing free bus travel

Chandigarh/Jalandhar October 31, 2025 : The Punjab Roadways/PRTC Contract Workers Union has withdrawn its call for a strike and protest that was scheduled for Friday, October 31.

Union General Secretary Shamsher Singh stated that the Punjab government was set to issue a tender on October 31 related to the kilometer scheme. In opposition to this tender, the union had announced that employees of Punjab Roadways and PRTC would shut down operations in Jalandhar and hold a protest in Rama Mandi. They had also planned to march toward the Chief Minister’s residence in Sangrur.

However, the government has now postponed the tender for the time being and deferred it to a later date. As a result, the union has decided to withdraw its planned demonstrations.

Still, taking into account the Tarn Taran by-election on October 31, the Punjab Roadways/PRTC Contract Workers Union will hold a protest in Tarn Taran to raise awareness among the public about the government’s policies and shortcomings.

Summary :
The Punjab government has taken a major decision regarding the free bus travel scheme for women, introducing new rules to enhance safety and service efficiency.
