Speed Post becomes cheaper as government announces new discount scheme

November 3, 2025 : The Department of Posts has given a big relief to students. Now, students will be able to avail a special 10% discount on Speed Post services. This discount has been introduced especially to help students complete their academic or government application processes at a lower cost. The postal department has officially launched this premium service in all post offices from Saturday. Chief Postmaster A.K. Singh stated that a 10% discount on Speed Post has been started for students.

How to Avail the 10% Discount?

This scheme has been introduced to help reduce postal service costs for students.

EligibilityThe discount will apply to Speed Post packages weighing between 50 grams and 500 grams.
Proof RequiredStudents must present their Student ID Card to avail the discount.
On the EnvelopeThe envelope must clearly mention “Vidyarthi Daak” (Student Post).
RecipientThe recipient’s name must belong to a recognized educational institution (school, college, university) or a government recruitment agency (UPSC, State PSC, etc.).

This discount comes at a time when, in October, the postal department had increased Speed Post rates for the general public.

Accident Policy at ₹396 per Year – ₹10 Lakh Coverage

Through its subsidiary, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), the Department of Posts has also launched a very affordable Accident Policy.
