30 October 2026 (Navroze Bureau) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to address the party’s ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur on November 4, as the Punjab Congress prepares to intensify its political campaign ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh announced the rally, stating that the party expects more than one lakh people from different parts of the state to attend the event.
The rally is being organised to raise several issues concerning Punjab, including the drug menace, unemployment, farmers’ problems, law and order, sacrilege cases and the protection of the state’s rights. The Congress leadership is expected to use the event to question the policies and performance of the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Sangrur Rally to Focus on Punjab’s Issues
According to Pargat Singh, the November 4 gathering will provide a platform to highlight concerns affecting farmers, young people and ordinary citizens. He said the party would raise questions about the government’s handling of important public issues and demand accountability.
The choice of Sangrur is also politically significant, as it falls in the Malwa region, which plays an important role in Punjab’s electoral landscape. The district is also associated with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, giving the Congress rally additional political significance.
The party expects leaders, workers and supporters from across Punjab to participate. Congress leaders believe the gathering will help strengthen the organisation and increase public engagement ahead of the next Assembly elections.
Congress Targets AAP Government Over Law and Order
Ahead of the rally, Pargat Singh criticised the Bhagwant Mann government over the law-and-order situation in Punjab. He alleged that public confidence in the police and civil administration had weakened and claimed that the government’s functioning was affecting the morale of officials.
Singh also raised concerns about investigations into several cases, including those involving Parminder Singh Jhota and Gulzar Singh. Referring to the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, he questioned the pace of investigations in different cases and called for transparent, impartial and evidence-based police investigations.
These remarks form part of the Congress party’s broader criticism of the state government’s handling of law and order. The allegations are political claims made by the opposition and have not been independently established by the announcement of the rally.
Drug Menace and Unemployment Among Key Issues
The drug problem in Punjab is expected to be another major subject at the Sangrur rally. Pargat Singh said the issue was affecting young people in both rural and urban areas and called for a more effective approach to tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse.
Unemployment among the youth is also likely to feature prominently in the Congress campaign. The party has accused the state government of failing to adequately address the concerns of young people and provide sufficient opportunities.
Singh also commented on the proposal to consider poppy cultivation as a possible response to synthetic drugs. He said any such decision should be based on scientific research, expert consultation and a strict regulatory framework. He stressed that policies intended to address the drug problem should not create additional challenges.
Farmers’ Issues and Paddy Procurement
The Congress is also expected to raise concerns regarding paddy procurement and the difficulties faced by farmers in Punjab’s mandis.
Pargat Singh alleged that farmers were struggling to sell their crops and questioned whether they were receiving timely procurement and fair prices. He said farmers needed practical solutions rather than assurances from the government.
The party has also raised questions about Punjab’s water rights and the supply of water to Rajasthan. Singh referred to provisions of the Dam Safety Act and ongoing legal issues concerning river-water disputes, saying the state government must protect Punjab’s interests.
Sacrilege cases are another sensitive issue that the Congress intends to highlight. Singh questioned the transfer of certain cases outside Punjab and said people were still waiting for justice.
Rally to Set the Tone for Mission 2027
Rahul Gandhi’s visit comes at a time when the Punjab Congress is preparing its organisation for the 2027 Assembly elections. The party has been focusing on strengthening its state unit, mobilising workers and developing a campaign around issues it believes are important to voters.
Pargat Singh has described the visit as an opportunity to give fresh momentum to the Congress campaign from the Malwa region. The party also expects Gandhi’s participation to encourage local leaders and workers to increase their political activities across the state.
The Congress had earlier indicated that its Punjab leaders would focus on preparations for the Sangrur programme instead of attending Rahul Gandhi’s November 1 rally in Delhi.
With more than one lakh people expected to attend, the November 4 ‘Insaaf Rally’ is likely to be an important political gathering for the Punjab Congress. The event will provide the party an opportunity to present its criticism of the state government and outline the issues it intends to take up as preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections gather pace.
