Tarn Taran November 10, 2025: A video of Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has gone viral on social media, sparking anger among Sikh organizations. In the video, Warring is seen touching the topknots (kes) of two minor Sikh boys and joking about it. In Sikhism, the topknot and turban (dastaar) are considered symbols of faith and respect.
After the video surfaced, members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) lodged a police complaint with the Tarn Taran SSP, calling Warring’s actions an insult to Sikh religious code of conduct (Maryada). The complaint stated that his behavior hurt religious sentiments. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also criticized Warring, alleging that the Congress leader does not understand the significance of Sikh traditions. Badal said that for Sikhs, hair (kes) and the turban are divine gifts from the Gurus, and any disrespect toward them is unacceptable.
On the other hand, Punjab Congress spokesperson Jaskaran Singh Kahlon dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Kahlon stated that Warring did not intend to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments and accused the Akali Dal of exaggerating the issue for political gain.
Summary:
Punjab Congress chief Raja Warring encountered fresh controversy as the SGPC lodged a police complaint against him, escalating tensions between the political and religious bodies.
