Use of Afghan Soil for Terror Against Pakistan Unacceptable: Army Chief Munir

5 March 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir has said that the use of Afghan soil to launch terrorist attacks against Pakistan is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Speaking at a security briefing, Munir emphasized that Pakistan expects Afghanistan’s authorities to prevent militant groups from operating within their territory. He reiterated that Islamabad has consistently raised concerns over cross-border attacks targeting Pakistani civilians and security forces.

The army chief stated that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens. He stressed that cooperation between neighboring countries is essential to eliminate terrorism and maintain regional stability.

Tensions between the two countries have fluctuated in recent months amid reports of increased militant activity along the border. Pakistani officials have repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to take decisive action against groups allegedly involved in attacks inside Pakistan.

Munir underscored that peace in the region depends on mutual trust and accountability, adding that counterterrorism efforts require coordinated strategies rather than unilateral blame.

The remarks come amid broader security challenges facing the region, with officials calling for enhanced intelligence sharing and stronger border management to curb militant infiltration.

Summary

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir warned that Afghan soil must not be used for terror against Pakistan, urging Kabul to curb militant groups and stressing Islamabad’s right to defend its sovereignty.
