10 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : East Zone strengthened their grip on the Duleep Trophy 2026-27 title after producing a dominant performance against South Zone in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After posting a massive 708 in their first innings, East Zone secured a 372-run first-innings lead before further extending their advantage in the second innings. With the final heading into its decisive stage, East Zone are firmly in control.
Ishan Kishan Leads From the Front
East Zone captain Ishan Kishan has been the standout performer of the final.
The wicketkeeper-batter smashed a magnificent 270 off 334 balls, including 30 fours and seven sixes, to anchor East Zone’s mammoth first-innings total. His innings was the first double-century by an East Zone batter in a Duleep Trophy final.
Kishan’s performance has also strengthened his case for a return to India’s Test setup, with his ability to contribute heavily with the bat once again on display.

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has continued to attract attention during the final.
After his record-breaking 92 in the semifinal, the 15-year-old scored 44 in East Zone’s first innings. He has also impressed with his tactical awareness, including successful DRS involvement during the final.
His performances underline the growing depth of young talent within the East Zone squad.
