GIFT Nifty Rises, Signals Positive Start for Sensex, Nifty; Asian Tech Rally, Wall Street Surge Lift Sentiment

22 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Indian stock markets are set for a positive start on Tuesday, September 22, with GIFT Nifty trading higher and global equity markets gaining momentum. Strong overnight gains on Wall Street, a rally in Asian technology stocks and easing crude oil prices have improved investor sentiment ahead of the domestic market opening.

GIFT Nifty Signals Higher Opening

GIFT Nifty was trading around 23,510, up about 63.7 points from the previous Nifty futures close, indicating a potentially stronger opening for the benchmark indices. Another market reading placed GIFT Nifty around 23,521.50, up roughly 75 points.

The signal comes after the Sensex gained 564 points and the Nifty extended its winning streak to four sessions on Monday.

Wall Street Rally Boosts Global Sentiment

US markets delivered a strong performance overnight, led by technology and artificial-intelligence stocks.

The Nasdaq Composite surged 2.26% to a record closing high, while the S&P 500 gained 1.49% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.71%. Semiconductor stocks were among the major drivers of the rally.

The technology-led gains provided a positive cue for Asian markets and Indian equities.

Asian Technology Stocks Gain

Asian markets largely followed Wall Street higher.

South Korea’s KOSPI gained nearly 2%, while Taiwan’s market also advanced. China’s blue-chip stocks and Hong Kong equities moved higher as technology shares benefited from renewed interest in artificial intelligence.

Japan’s markets were closed for a holiday.

AI Stocks Remain in Focus

The latest global rally was heavily influenced by renewed enthusiasm for AI-related companies.

In the US, Nvidia gained 2.30%, AMD jumped nearly 10%, Intel surged more than 12% and Meta climbed over 11%. The strong performance of semiconductor and technology stocks helped push the Nasdaq to a fresh record close.

The global technology rally could provide support to Indian IT and technology-linked stocks at the opening, although individual stocks may respond differently.

Crude Oil Prices Remain a Key Factor

Oil prices have retreated sharply from their recent highs, although crude remains elevated.

Brent crude was trading around $100–101 a barrel, after falling more than 3% in the previous session. WTI crude had also declined sharply.

For India, softer crude prices can ease concerns over the country’s import bill and inflationary pressure because India is heavily dependent on imported oil.

US Treasury Yields Decline

US Treasury yields also moved lower, providing another supportive factor for global equity markets.

The decline in bond yields has helped improve risk appetite, while investors continue to assess the outlook for US monetary policy and inflation.

US-Iran Developments Remain Important

Geopolitical developments remain an important variable for markets.

Investors are watching possible diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran, including the possibility of talks during the UN General Assembly in New York. Any improvement in the situation could further reduce concerns about energy supply disruptions, while renewed tensions could quickly push crude prices higher.

Indian Market Outlook

The combination of higher GIFT Nifty, strong global technology stocks, easing oil prices and softer US yields is providing a positive setup for Indian equities.

However, investors will also track crude oil movements, the rupee, foreign institutional flows, domestic economic data and geopolitical developments during the trading session.

Key Levels and Market Factors

Market participants are likely to watch the Nifty’s ability to sustain gains after the opening, while the Sensex could remain sensitive to movements in heavyweight technology, banking and energy stocks.

The positive global cues provide support, but volatility could remain if oil prices reverse higher or geopolitical tensions intensify.
