30 October 2026 (Navroze Bureau) Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has reportedly become a potential target of a Chinese intelligence operation after US intelligence agencies identified a Chinese businesswoman with close professional ties to him as an alleged intelligence asset for Beijing. The development has raised concerns in Washington about the possible access China could gain to sensitive business and technology-related information through its connections with influential figures in the artificial intelligence industry.
According to a report published by The New York Times, US intelligence agencies had been monitoring Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, a Chinese citizen and former senior executive at Singapore-based data centre company Megaspeed. American officials reportedly concluded that she was passing information to Beijing while maintaining a close relationship with Jensen Huang.
The report does not establish that Jensen Huang knowingly participated in any intelligence activity. Instead, US officials are concerned that his professional relationship with Alice Huang may have provided her with access to information and insights connected to Nvidia and the broader American AI industry.
Who Is Alice Huang?
Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, was associated with Megaspeed, a Singapore-based company involved in purchasing advanced computing equipment and providing data centre services.
US authorities reportedly suspected that the company could be helping Chinese businesses obtain access to advanced Nvidia AI chips despite American export restrictions. Intelligence agencies subsequently concluded that Alice Huang was allegedly collecting information for Beijing.
According to the report, surveillance of Alice Huang revealed that she had developed a close relationship with Jensen Huang. Her connections with the Nvidia chief reportedly attracted additional attention because of his influence in the global technology industry and his access to senior US political and business leaders.
The report also highlighted concerns that information obtained through such relationships could potentially provide Beijing with insights into Nvidia’s business plans and developments in the AI sector.
Donald Trump Was Briefed About Intelligence Findings
One of the significant claims in the report concerns US President Donald Trump. According to people familiar with the intelligence findings, Trump was briefed about the situation approximately a year ago.
However, the report claims that the president chose not to take action after receiving the information. Officials reportedly believed that taking action could disrupt Nvidia’s chip sales and complicate the already sensitive trade relationship between Washington and Beijing.
The issue is particularly important because advanced AI chips have become a major part of the technological and economic competition between the United States and China.
Nvidia plays a central role in the global AI industry, and its processors are widely used to train and operate advanced artificial intelligence systems. Washington has introduced export restrictions to limit China’s access to some of these technologies.
Concerns Over Nvidia Chips Reaching China
US officials have been investigating Megaspeed over concerns that advanced Nvidia chips purchased through the company could be reaching Chinese customers in violation of export restrictions.
According to the report, Megaspeed and its affiliated businesses purchased at least $4.8 billion worth of advanced AI equipment containing Nvidia technology between June 2024 and February 2026.
The company reportedly purchased computing equipment through different intermediaries and provided computing capacity to businesses in China, including major technology companies.
Investigators have also examined whether some of the equipment was being redirected to locations where it could be accessed by Chinese customers.
The US government has been examining Megaspeed’s activities since late 2024. The investigation was reportedly transferred from the Commerce Department to the Justice Department in 2026.
However, the allegations remain under investigation, and the publicly available reporting does not establish that all the equipment purchased by Megaspeed was illegally diverted to China.
Nvidia Rejects Concerns Over Jensen Huang’s Interactions
Nvidia has defended its business relationship with Megaspeed and rejected suggestions that Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were unusual.
The company said that meetings between its chief executive and regional customers were a normal part of business operations. Nvidia also maintained that customers such as Megaspeed received ordinary business information rather than sensitive trade secrets or information relevant to national security.
Jensen Huang separately defended the company’s dealings with Megaspeed, describing them as normal. According to a Bloomberg News report carried by Reuters, he said Nvidia had examined the company’s GPU deployments and checked whether its products were being diverted illegally.
Nvidia has maintained that it follows applicable export regulations and has previously investigated concerns involving Megaspeed.
China Rejects US Intelligence Allegations
The Chinese government has rejected the allegations against Alice Huang. Liu Chang, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, described the accusations as part of a campaign of what he called groundless smears and slanders against China.
Megaspeed’s current leadership also said it was taking the matter seriously and had appointed outside legal counsel to conduct an internal investigation. The company reportedly informed the US government that it was willing to cooperate with the authorities.
Alice Huang did not respond to requests for comment, according to the report.
Why the Case Matters for the Global AI Industry
The controversy highlights the growing importance of AI chips in the geopolitical competition between the United States and China. Advanced processors manufactured by Nvidia are essential for developing powerful AI models, making their international supply chains a major national security concern.
Washington has attempted to restrict China’s access to certain high-performance chips, while technology companies have continued to navigate the commercial opportunities and regulatory challenges of the Chinese market.
The allegations involving Alice Huang have raised questions about corporate relationships, intelligence gathering and the protection of sensitive business information. However, several details remain unclear, including what specific information was allegedly shared with Beijing and how valuable it may have been.
For now, the case remains a developing intelligence and business controversy, with Nvidia defending its dealings and US authorities continuing to examine the activities associated with Megaspeed.
