District Magistrate Imposes Complete Ban on Burning of Paddy Crop Residue/Stubble

Faridkot, November 5:

District Magistrate, Faridkot, Mr. Rahul Chaba, IAS, exercising the powers vested in him under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, has issued orders imposing a complete ban on the burning of paddy crop residue/stubble within the district of Faridkot.

He stated that farmers are harvesting paddy crops during the 2026 season. It has been observed that after harvesting, the crop residue and stubble are often set on fire by the concerned landowners. This practice poses several potential risks and can cause significant damage.

He further stated that smoke released into the atmosphere due to stubble burning causes air pollution, which can lead to respiratory diseases. Burning crop residue also reduces soil fertility. Moreover, such fires pose a risk of spreading to standing crops in nearby fields or even into adjoining villages. This may result in major accidents and lead to loss of life and property.

Burning crop residue along roadsides also disrupts traffic and can cause road accidents. Such incidents may also create difficulties in maintaining law and order. Although farmers themselves may suffer losses due to these incidents, their indirect impact is also felt on the country’s overall agricultural production.

He emphasised that preventing stubble burning is essential in the public interest and that immediate necessary measures need to be taken to curb this practice.

Accordingly, the District Magistrate has issued orders imposing a complete ban on the burning of paddy crop residue/stubble within Faridkot district. These orders will remain in force until December 20, 2026.
