Ludhiana, April 8, 2025 : Hopes of School Operators Dashed as DEO Reissues Orders for Holiday on Tuesday Despite a government-declared gazetted holiday, the hopes of several school operators who were planning to keep their schools open on Tuesday were dashed when the District Education Officer (DEO) reposted the official list of gazetted holidays late in the evening and issued instructions to all schools to remain closed on Tuesday.
The Punjab government had officially declared April 8 as a gazetted holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nabha Das Ji Maharaj, and the list had already been sent to all schools in advance. However, some prominent schools in the district were preparing to ignore this directive and open as usual. A concerned parent informed the administration that several schools were planning to call both students and teachers on Tuesday as per their normal schedule.
Upon receiving this information, the DEO, acting on instructions from higher authorities, issued a directive via the WhatsApp groups of school principals, ordering all schools to observe the holiday on Tuesday.
Although most school principals were reportedly not happy with the late-evening order, they still informed parents about the holiday later that night to avoid any potential government action. DEO Dimple Madan emphasized that complying with gazetted holiday orders is mandatory for all schools, and no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.
She also stated that block nodal officers had been instructed to remain alert on Tuesday, and in case any complaint was received, teams would be sent to inspect the schools. The DEO made it clear that if any school was found violating the holiday directive, strict action would be taken according to the rules.
Summary:
The Punjab government has released new directives regarding school holidays following public disagreement and confusion, aiming to bring clarity and uniformity across institutions.
