Ahmedgarh/Amargarh/Malerkotla, April 11 : MLA of Amargarh, Professor Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra, today addressed representatives of around 80 village panchayats from the Amargarh constituency, including youth and village leaders, during an awareness program organized under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign with the support of the district civil and police administration. He appealed to grassroots administrative figures like councilors, sarpanches, and nambardars to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against drug traffickers, rising above social pressures and responsibilities.
Emphasizing the critical role of local leaders, he urged them not to support those who are pushing the youth into the dark pit of addiction. He said that drugs have darkened the future of the young generation, and to completely uproot this menace, not only are government efforts necessary, but the active participation of the entire society is also essential.
Professor Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to eradicating drugs. He mentioned that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has adopted a two-pronged strategy. On one hand, strict actions are being taken to break the drug supply chain, while on the other, efforts are being made to rehabilitate addicts by providing them with skill-based courses so they can start their own employment, support their families, become economically self-reliant, and reconnect with mainstream society.
Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidke emphasized the urgent need to eradicate the curse of drugs from society, calling it the biggest threat to the state’s economy, health, and social structure. “Only if we fight this battle at the grassroots level can we expect real outcomes. Every citizen must understand their responsibility,” he said, calling upon the public to actively support the administration in turning the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign into a people’s movement.
SSP Gagan Ajit Singh assured that the identity of those providing information in the fight against drugs would be kept completely confidential and that the police would take impartial action. He urged citizens to share information about drug traffickers so the district can be made drug-free. He stressed that now is the time for the entire society to unite and fight this battle together. He added that this campaign should not remain just a government effort but should become a mass movement. “A single step from us can save many lives,” he said, encouraging people to come forward without hesitation to share any information related to drugs.
On this occasion, Dr. Wahid provided detailed information about drug awareness to the sarpanches and panchs, and life coach Randeep Singh inspired the attendees to stay away from drugs through spiritual teachings.
Also present at the event were Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Navdeep Kaur, SP (H) Gursaranjeet Singh Sandhu, District Development and Panchayat Officer Rimpi Garg, DSP Davinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Goel, along with Muhammad Rafi, Harpreet Singh, Keval Singh Jagowal, Gurmukh Singh, Rajeev, Nasher, Abhijot Singh, Pritpal, and a large number of sarpanches, panchs, and other notable individuals.
