No More Patwari Visits: Land Records to Go Fully Online Soon

Moga, April 11 – Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has fulfilled a long-standing demand of the people of Moga city by issuing orders to digitize the remaining land records of all five city circles. This move aims to eliminate the need for citizens to visit the Patwari (village-level land officer) to obtain copies of land records.

Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sagar Setia, while initiating the digitization work today, issued strict instructions to the Revenue Department to complete this task by April 30, 2025.

Providing more details, Mr. Setia shared that there are 331 villages under the jurisdiction of Moga district, of which the land records for 326 villages have already been digitized. However, the land records for five urban circles/villages (Moga Mahla Singh 1, 2, 3 and Moga Jeet Singh 1 and 2) had not yet been computerized. As a result, residents had to leave their important work and visit the Patwari’s office to get copies of their land records. Now, with the records going digital, city residents will greatly benefit.

Mr. Setia further informed that, considering the importance of this task, the Revenue Department has been directed to complete it by April 30. A special lab has been set up in the District Administrative Complex where 25 data entry operators will be working. The two Patwaris related to the city will personally oversee this process, while District Revenue Officer Mr. Lakshey Gupta has been appointed as the nodal officer. The project will be executed in mission mode.

He added that a total of 13,241 “khewats” (landholding entries) related to Moga city are to be digitized, out of which 1,050 have already been completed, and 12,191 are pending. Similarly, 5,280 mutations (land ownership transfers) will also be updated.

This decision by the Punjab Government has been warmly welcomed by the residents of Moga, who expressed their gratitude, stating that the digitization of land records will provide great relief to the public. On this occasion, District Revenue Officer Mr. Lakshey Gupta, District System Manager Mr. Surinder Arora, and other officials were also present.

Summary: Citizens will soon access all remaining land records online, eliminating the need to visit Patwaris for property-related queries.
