16 April 2025: The police on Tuesday questioned Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa for over five hours over his claim of “50 bombs in Punjab”. Following his appearance at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Phase-7 here, Bajwa appeared relieved and stated he had faced sustained questioning to which he replied robustly. He did not specify whether he would be summoned again in the case.
Earlier, before entering the police station around 2:30 pm, a minor scuffle broke out as Congress leaders accompanying Bajwa were stopped some distance away from the gate. Bajwa said, “It is vendetta politics. This will only lead to the resurgence of the Congress in the state. Already, an ED raid on an AAP MLA (Kulwant Singh) is underway at the moment.”
As Bajwa entered the police station with his lawyer, Congress workers raised slogans and staged a sit-in protest outside.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Raja Warring said, “As long as Partap Singh Bajwa remains inside the police station, we will continue to sit on the road. We are prepared to stay here overnight to oppose CM Bhagwant Mann’s dictatorial attitude.”
The police had summoned Bajwa in connection with his “50 bombs in Punjab” statement, following the registration of a case against him on Sunday. Apart from Bajwa’s son, several Congress leaders, including Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pargat Singh, Rana Gurjeet Singh, MP Gurjeet Aujla and Balbir Singh Sidhu, had gathered in his support.
Congress leaders also pointed to AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s past comment about toxic water being supplied in Delhi households and referenced a recent news report about the alleged presence of bombs in Punjab.
With temperatures around 36°C in Mohali, the political heat intensified as both parties held demonstrations. The Congress displayed its strength at Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh, while AAP state president Aman Arora and others protested in Phase-2, Mohali, demanding Bajwa’s arrest.
In a warning earlier in the day, Arora had said, “The matter will only end if Bajwa reveals his source and the location of these bombs or if he holds his ears and apologises for spreading misinformation about Punjab’s security.”
Summary: Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa was interrogated by Mohali police for five hours regarding his controversial claim about 50 bombs in Punjab, sparking political tensions.
