Jalandhar/Chandigarh, April 24, 2025 : In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to proactive policing and strengthening public safety, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with Yara India, launched a special road safety awareness campaign titled ‘I.M. Safety Hero’ on Wednesday at the Punjab Police Headquarters.
The campaign has been initiated by the Traffic and Road Safety Wing of the Punjab Police under the direction of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Traffic and Road Safety, A.S. Rai, formally inaugurated the campaign. He stated that the initiative aims to address the rising number of road accidents involving agricultural vehicles, particularly tractor-trolleys, through education, awareness, and collective responsibility. During the event, reflective safety stickers for tractor-trolleys were launched, along with specially designed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to support year-round awareness campaigns.
Sanjeev Kanwar, Managing Director of Yara South Asia, and Dr. Navdeep Asija, Director of the Punjab Road Safety and Traffic Research Centre (PRSTRC), were also present on the occasion.
The ADGP mentioned that this material will be distributed across all district and commissionerate-level traffic and road safety education cells of the Punjab Police, enabling outreach to thousands of students and community members through structured programming.
To kick off this special campaign, a three-day model farmer awareness camp will begin on Thursday at Khanna Mandi, Asia’s largest grain market. According to official data, between 2017 and 2022, Punjab recorded 2,048 road accidents involving tractor-trolleys, resulting in 1,569 deaths, with most of the victims being farmers.
