235 Pakistani Nationals in Punjab Face Imprisonment If They Don’t Leave Today

Punjab April 29, 2025 : Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the decision taken by the Indian government, today is the last day for the return of Pakistani nationals. The Indian government has already extended the deadline twice. By this evening, it will be clear whether the deadline will be extended again or not. If not, Pakistani nationals who do not leave India will face legal action.

From April 24, 2025, to April 27, 2025, a total of 537 Pakistani nationals, including 9 diplomats and officials, returned to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border. Recently, DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned in a press conference that the number of Pakistani nationals with visas in Punjab is 235.

After the attack in Pahalgam, on April 23, the Indian government canceled the visas of all Pakistani nationals and ordered them to leave the country within 48 hours. However, considering the convenience of Pakistani nationals coming from remote areas, the deadline was extended to April 27. By April 27, only 537 Pakistani nationals had returned to Pakistan, including 9 diplomats and officials. Following this, the Indian government extended the deadline for a second time, allowing Pakistani nationals until April 29. This means that today, Pakistani nationals must leave India under any circumstances.

Centre’s Strict Stance
On Sunday evening, the central government issued a notice for Pakistani nationals. It stated that if any Pakistani national does not leave India within the specified time frame, they will be arrested, and a case will be registered against them. Such individuals could face a 3-year prison sentence, a fine of ₹3 lakh, or both.

According to the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, which will come into effect from April 4, 2025, strict action will be taken for violating visa conditions or staying in India beyond the specified duration.

Summary:
235 Pakistani nationals in Punjab must leave India by today or risk facing imprisonment and fines. This follows visa cancellations after the Pahalgam terror attack.
