Drug De-addiction March to Begin in District Villages from May 7

Faridkot, May 5: Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is running a drug de-addiction campaign to make the state drug-free and eliminate drug abuse and drug trafficking. As part of this initiative, from May 7, a series of Gram Sabhas (village councils) will be organized in all villages of Faridkot to raise awareness. This information was shared by Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur during a special meeting with officials from various departments and district and constituency coordinators of the Aam Aadmi Party related to drug de-addiction.

The Deputy Commissioner explained that under the drug de-addiction campaign, a Gram Sabha will be organized in each village, involving district security and security committees, along with the residents of the villages. The campaign will also engage local legislators, the health department, the panchayat department, and the cooperative department. A large number of experts will raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and encourage full participation in this public movement. She added that awareness programs will be held daily in the three villages of each constituency. The duty of various departmental officials has been assigned for this purpose. During these events, awareness materials will also be distributed to educate people against drugs.

The aim of these awareness programs is to help drug victims break free from the grip of drugs, provide them with proper treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation training. For this, the number of beds for patient treatment in the district has been increased from 50 to 200. The Deputy Commissioner further stated that people will be made aware to report any drug trafficking activities in their villages or localities to the state helpline or concerned police stations so that these anti-social elements can be fully removed from the community. She appealed to the people to actively participate in this campaign to make it successful and eliminate drugs completely from society.

The Deputy Commissioner also announced that on May 7, awareness events will be held in the villages of the Faridkot constituency (Dhillwa Khurd, Jandwala, and Sadhuwala), the Kotkapura constituency (Dhuddi, Dhoodkot, and Kot Sukhian), and the Jeeto constituency (Dhillwa Kalan, Kothe Hajoora, and Kothe Ramsar) from 4 PM to 6 PM.

On this occasion, District President of the Aam Aadmi Party S. Gurtej Singh Khosa, District Coordinator of Drug De-addiction and Chairman of the Improvement Trust S. Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Development S. Narbhinder Singh Garewal, SDM Faridkot Major Varun Kumar, Kotkapura S. Varinder Singh, Jeeto S. Suraj, GA Madam Tushita Gulati, Civil Surgeon Dr. Chander Shekhar Kakkar, Chairman of the Market Committee S. Ramandeep Singh Mumra, Uttam Singh Dod Harka Incharge Faridkot, Amandeep Singh Sandhu Harka Incharge Kotkapura, Maninder Singh Harka Incharge Jeeto, along with a large number of officials and staff members were present.

Summary:
A statewide anti-drug campaign, the “Nasha Mukti Yatra,” will start on May 7, 2025, aiming to raise awareness and combat substance abuse in Punjab villages.
