Jalandhar, December 17, 2024 (Navroze Bureau) –  The harsh cold has begun to show its effect in Punjab.  In the morning, there is fog in the outskirts of the city and during the afternoon, the weather is normal. Weather experts say that the cold is spreading fast and the temperature of the metropolis is falling rapidly, due to which the full force of the cold will be seen in the coming days. There is a difference of up to 2 degrees in today’s temperature as compared to yesterday. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded above 22 degrees whereas today’s maximum temperature was 20 degrees and the minimum temperature reached 3 degrees.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Punjab remains dry and severe cold has been felt in most parts. The highest temperature in Punjab was recorded at 25.6 degrees in Faridkot while the lowest temperature was recorded at 2.5 degrees in the border area of ​​Amritsar. The cold is likely to increase further in Punjab in the coming days. People have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Due to the cold, people were seen protecting themselves by lighting bonfires. Especially the people living on the roadside are facing a lot of problems because the temperature goes below 5 degrees at night, due to which the full force of the cold is felt.

In this sequence, the direct effect of snowfall in the upper areas of Himachal is being seen in the plains of Punjab. At the same time, people going to work early in the morning are facing many problems due to fog. Visibility on the highway has reduced due to fog. Due to this, people traveling long distances are taking more time to reach their destination.

25 points improvement in AQI
During the past time, Air Quality Index (AQI) had reached a dangerous level by going above 350, whereas today it has improved by 25 points. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in the coming days, due to which a big improvement will be seen in AQI. Due to the increase in pollution level, patients suffering from respiratory problems start facing many problems and it also has a deep impact on the common man. Experts say that until the AQI does not come below 200, everyone should show seriousness towards it and ensure the use of mask etc. while going out of the house.
