Batala, October 7:
Farmer awareness camps on the management of paddy straw were organized in the villages of Bahadurpur Rajoa and Cheema Khuddi in Sri Hargobindpur Sahib block.
The camps began with Agriculture Sub-Inspector Gursewak Singh sharing information about crops and providing detailed guidance on proper paddy straw management. He said that Chief Agriculture Officer, Gurdaspur, Dr. Shahbaz Singh Cheema, had made the required agricultural machinery available to farmers at subsidized rates this year. He appealed to farmers not to burn paddy straw under any circumstances and instead incorporate it into the soil before sowing wheat.
At the awareness camps organized through the efforts of Block In-charge and Agriculture Extension Officer Rajinder Kumar, farmers were informed about the harmful effects of toxic gases released by paddy straw burning. They were told that incorporating crop residue into the soil before wheat sowing improves soil fertility while also preventing environmental pollution.
Jagseer Singh from Feedback Foundation also briefed farmers about the farmer-oriented schemes being implemented by the organization. He urged farmers to support the ongoing awareness campaign by managing paddy straw scientifically and helping protect soil and the environment from pollution.
Farmer IDs were also created for participants under the Farmer Registry during the camps. Farmers were urged to get their Farmer IDs created at the earliest.
Shubhpreet Singh Singh expressed gratitude to the farmers who attended the camps. Sarabjit Singh, Harbhant Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Sarpanch, Sukhjit Singh and others were also present.
