Delhi Dec 2, 2024 (Navroze Bureau) – The protesting farmers are adamant on marching towards Delhi. They have broken the security cordon and have moved towards Delhi. Due to this, the road from Greater Noida to Delhi has been closed. Heavy security has been deployed on the Greater Noida and Delhi border.
At present, there is a huge traffic jam at Chilla Border, UP Gate and Mahamaya Flyover, as traffic is being affected on these major routes due to the farmers’ movement. This movement started on 27 November at Greater Noida Authority, and after this there was a sit-in and demonstration at Yamuna Authority from 28 November to 1 December. Now the third and final phase of this movement is starting on 2 December, when farmers will march to Delhi and protest during the Parliament session.
Meanwhile, the police have put up barricades at Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida to block the road between Noida and Greater Noida as farmers from Uttar Pradesh start their march towards Delhi from today.
Why is the movement happening?
This movement may involve 40,000 to 45,000 farmers, who are going to march to Delhi from various districts of UP like Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra and other areas. This march has been called by 14 farmer organizations, who will protest in Delhi during the Parliament session regarding their demands.
Farmer leaders say that this movement is about their rights and problems related to agriculture, which they want to be resolved by the central government. Farmer organizations have appealed to their member farmers to participate in this march, due to which this movement can be seen on an even larger scale.
These are the main demands of the farmers:
Compensation under old land acquisition law: Farmers want 10% plots and 64.7% increased compensation to be given to the affected farmers under the old land acquisition law.
Compensation on land acquired after January 1, 2014: Farmers whose land was acquired after January 1, 2014 are being demanded to be given four times the market rate compensation and 20% plots.
Employment and rehabilitation to the children of landless farmers: The children of landless farmers should be given the benefit of employment and rehabilitation so that they can get better opportunities.
Government orders on issues passed by the High Power Committee: Farmers want that orders should be issued by the government as soon as possible on the issues passed by the High Power Committee.
Proper disposal of populated areas: Farmers want proper and effective disposal of populated areas so that it does not have a negative impact on their lifestyle and livelihood.
