29 july 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Chandigarh, July 29: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana has appealed to farmers across the state to get the water from their tube wells tested regularly. Emphasizing the importance of water quality, he said, “Get your water tested, and your crop production will not suffer.”
The minister said that the quality of irrigation water has a direct impact on crop growth and yield. Excessive salinity (high salt content) and alkalinity in water can adversely affect soil fertility and its productivity. Timely testing of tube well water helps farmers choose suitable crops and enables them to manage fertilizers and nutrients in a balanced and efficient manner.
Explaining the correct method for collecting a tube well water sample, Mr. Rana advised farmers to run the tube well continuously for at least 30 minutes before collecting the sample. Farmers should then fill a clean plastic bottle with about 500 ml (or 1 litre) of water. The bottle should be clearly labeled with the farmer’s name, MFMB (Meri Fasal Mera Byora) ID, village name, Killa/Khasra number, mobile number, and borewell depth (in feet). The prepared sample can then be submitted to the nearest Soil Health Testing Laboratory (Soil Testing Lab).
The Agriculture Minister urged farmers to select crops and adopt irrigation practices based on the water testing report.
