Public Sector, Regional Rural Banks to Remain Open on September 27: Finance Ministry

24 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : The Ministry of Finance has directed that all public sector banks (PSBs) and regional rural banks (RRBs) will remain open for customers on September 27, ensuring uninterrupted banking services on the specified date.

The decision is aimed at maintaining the availability of essential banking services and preventing disruption to customers who may need to carry out transactions or access branch-based services.

Public Sector Banks to Remain Operational

All public sector banks have been instructed to keep their branches operational on September 27.

Customers will therefore be able to access regular branch services, subject to the normal working arrangements of their respective banks.

Regional Rural Banks Included

The directive also covers regional rural banks, which play an important role in providing banking and financial services in rural and semi-urban areas.

Keeping RRB branches open is particularly relevant for customers who depend on physical branches for cash transactions, account-related services and other banking requirements.

Why the Decision Matters

Bank holidays and changes in branch working schedules can sometimes affect customers, businesses and government-related financial transactions.

The Finance Ministry’s decision is intended to ensure that banking operations continue without interruption and that customers have access to essential services on September 27.

Customers Advised to Check Branch Timings

Although branches will remain open under the directive, customers may still check the working hours of their individual branch before visiting.

Digital banking services, including internet banking and mobile banking, are also expected to remain available according to the respective bank’s normal service arrangements.
