Ferozepur, September 2:
As per the directions of the Punjab Government, the District Administration today organized a marathon dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. The marathon was flagged off from the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium by Ferozepur Urban MLA S. Ranbir Singh Bhullar. SDM Ferozepur Abhishek Sharma, along with thousands of people, participated in the marathon organized to commemorate the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
The marathon started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, passed through Shershah Wali Chowk, and culminated back at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium.
On the occasion, MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar highlighted the various events being organized to commemorate the Prakash Purab of Guru Ravidas Ji. He said, “The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is celebrating the 650th Prakash Purab of Guru Ravidas Ji on a grand scale. As part of these celebrations, marathons are being organized for the creation of a healthy and progressive society.”
He said that the marathon provides inspiration that sports are essential for keeping our lives fit and healthy. He added that if young people are to be protected from drug abuse, sports can play a vital role in keeping them away from this menace.
On the occasion, SDM Ferozepur Shri Abhishek Sharma said that marathons dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji are being organized across all districts of Punjab. He said that the marathon conveys the message that everyone should participate in sports without any discrimination, and people from every section of society can take part. He congratulated all the participating players, children and residents of the district.
District Sports Officer S. Gurdeep Singh informed that a 5-kilometre race was organized as part of the marathon, and the winners were also felicitated on the occasion. He said that the Punjab Government provided T-shirts and refreshments to the participants.
He further informed that the marathon was named “Run for Equality” with the aim of encouraging players from different religions to participate together without any discrimination and promoting mutual brotherhood and harmony among the participants.
