18 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella addressed the inaugural “IDEAS4INDIA: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum | Unlocking the Tech Dividend” hosted by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, with discussions focused on strengthening technology cooperation between India and the United States.
The forum was held on September 17, 2026, as a follow-up to the India AI Impact Summit 2026, and brought together more than 40 Indian-origin CEOs and CTOs from the Greater Seattle and Pacific Northwest technology ecosystem.
Nadella Highlights Seattle-India Technology Links
Nadella, who attended the forum as Guest of Honour, spoke about the growth of Seattle’s technology ecosystem over roughly 35 years and its increasingly strong relationship with India.
He described artificial intelligence as a general-purpose technology, saying its benefits would depend on its broad diffusion across countries, communities and sectors.
In his remarks, Nadella also highlighted India’s technology talent and AI potential, reiterating Microsoft’s commitment to strengthening India’s AI opportunity through infrastructure, skills and sovereign capabilities.
More Than 40 Indian-Origin Tech Leaders Participate
The forum brought together senior technology executives from companies and organisations including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel, Veeam Software, Helion, Zenoti, Viome Life Sciences and Edifecs, among others.
The participants discussed ways to use the expertise of the Indian-American technology community to support India’s technology ambitions and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
AI, Semiconductors and Quantum Technology in Focus
The interactive discussions covered several strategic technology areas.
Key topics included AI infrastructure, data centres, semiconductor design and manufacturing, quantum research, talent and skilling, aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
The discussions reflect the growing importance of these sectors to both India’s digital development and the broader India-US technology relationship.
Vinay Kwatra Reaffirms India’s AI Priorities
Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Kwatra also addressed the gathering.
Kwatra welcomed the participants’ interest in strengthening the India-US technology partnership and reiterated the government’s commitment to an AI mission based on inclusivity, openness, sovereignty, democratised access, safety and trust.
Microsoft’s Major India Investment
The forum also highlighted Microsoft’s growing investment in India.
According to the Consulate General of India, Microsoft has announced plans to invest $17.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2029, covering cloud and AI infrastructure, skilling and operations. The investment was described as Microsoft’s largest-ever in Asia.
Amazon has also announced a planned $48 billion investment between 2026 and 2030, including expansion of AWS data-centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
India-US Tech Partnership Expands
The forum comes as India and the United States seek deeper cooperation across emerging technologies.
The discussions are also linked to the India-US TRUST Initiative — Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology — under which the two countries are working to connect their innovation ecosystems and expand collaboration in areas including AI, quantum technology, semiconductors, space, telecommunications and biotechnology.
Tribute to Seattle’s Indian-Origin Technology Leaders
The gathering began with a minute’s silence in memory of two Indian-origin technology leaders from Seattle who recently died: Samir Bodas, co-founder and CEO of Icertis, and S. Somasegar, managing director of Madrona Venture Group and former Microsoft corporate vice president.
Their contributions to Seattle’s technology ecosystem and support for Indian-origin startups were remembered during the event.
Padma Shri Ajay Bhatt, known for his work on USB technology and formerly associated with Intel, also participated in the discussions.
A Platform for Future Collaboration
The Consulate General of India said the IDEAS4INDIA forum is expected to continue as a platform for technology leaders to exchange ideas and strengthen India-US cooperation.
The first gathering brought together India’s technology diaspora and major US-based technology companies around shared interests in AI, advanced manufacturing, research, infrastructure and talent.
