Special Lok Adalat to Be Held by the Hon’ble Supreme Court on August 21, 22 and 23: District and Sessions Judge, Gurdaspur

20  Aug 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India will conduct a Special Lok Adalat on August 21, 22 and 23, 2026, with the objective of facilitating the amicable and speedy resolution of cases that have been pending before the court for a considerable period.

Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, Mr. Dilbag Singh Johal, said that the initiative has been undertaken by the Supreme Court to reduce the backlog of pending cases and facilitate their resolution through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

He said that during the Special Lok Adalat, cases eligible for settlement through mutual consent and conciliation will be taken up. Such matters may include matrimonial disputes, motor accident claim cases, service disputes, land acquisition matters, consumer cases and other civil disputes that are legally permissible for settlement through Lok Adalat proceedings.

He further said that the District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, has received a list of cases related to Gurdaspur district and its subdivisions from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India through the main office at S.A.S. Nagar. Summons have been issued by the District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, to both parties in the concerned cases.

The Pre-Lok Adalats will be conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, under the leadership of Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge, Gurdaspur, Mr. Dilbag Singh Johal.

He said that the District Legal Services Authority, Gurdaspur, is conducting these Pre-Lok Adalats. Once both parties express their consent to a settlement, the report will be forwarded to the main office at S.A.S. Nagar so that the matters can be finally settled during the Special Lok Adalat to be held at the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on August 21, 22 and 23, 2026.

In connection with the Special Lok Adalat, the public has been urged that people whose cases are pending before the Supreme Court and are related to Gurdaspur district should have their cases taken up in the Pre-Lok Adalat and make maximum use of this opportunity.

In Lok Adalats, cases are settled through mutual agreement and consent of both parties. This helps save time and money and also promotes greater mutual understanding and harmony between the parties.
