10 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : US President Donald Trump has claimed that the ongoing war with Iran will end “immediately” after the US midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, 2026.
Trump said Iran would not be able to withstand continued US economic pressure and accused Tehran of trying to influence the upcoming elections by prolonging the conflict. His prediction comes as the war enters its seventh month with no confirmed end date.
Trump Links War’s End to November Elections
Speaking to reporters before travelling to Dallas for a Republican midterm convention, Trump said he believed the conflict would end immediately after the election because Iran “can’t hold out any longer.”
He also accused Tehran of being “desperate” to affect the US election outcome, claiming Iran wants a future US government that would be more willing to leave it alone.
No Immediate Diplomatic Talks Planned
Trump acknowledged that negotiations with Iran could eventually take place but said restarting talks was not currently a priority for his administration.

Reuters reported that officials including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have privately warned that the conflict could potentially continue much longer. The Wall Street Journal separately reported concerns that the war could last through the remainder of Trump’s term, although Reuters said it could not immediately verify that report.
Vance Avoids Setting a Deadline
Vance has previously avoided predicting when the conflict will end, saying he did not want to establish an “artificial timeline.”
That position highlights the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s latest forecast: the president has offered a specific political deadline, while other senior officials have cautioned against making firm predictions.
Midterms Could Become a Referendum on the War
The conflict is unfolding just weeks before Americans vote in the November midterms.
The elections will determine control of Congress, making the war and its economic consequences politically significant. Rising fuel prices and inflation have already increased pressure on the administration.
Energy Costs Add to Political Pressure
