Fatehgarh Sahib, July 31:
On the occasion of the 86th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji, the district administration organized a tribute ceremony at the Martyrs’ Memorial near Roza Sharif. During the event, Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amarbir Kaur Bhullar, SDM Fatehgarh Sahib Karun Gupta, Tehsildar Vishal Verma, Municipal Council President Asha Rani, along with several other dignitaries, paid floral tributes to the great martyr.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai said that the sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji played an unparalleled role in upholding the honour and dignity of the nation and Punjab. He said that paying homage to such a great martyr is the responsibility of every citizen.
He further stated that Shaheed Udham Singh Ji avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by taking justice to the perpetrators on their own soil. Had the brutal British official responsible for the massacre of thousands of unarmed Punjabis not been brought to justice, Punjabis could never have held their heads high with pride. Through his courageous act, Shaheed Udham Singh Ji further elevated the honour of Punjab.
The MLA added that the freedom won through the supreme sacrifices of the country’s great patriots must be preserved by every citizen. He emphasized that children should be educated about the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs so they may be inspired to contribute towards fulfilling their dreams and serving the country.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amarbir Kaur Bhullar said that Shaheed Udham Singh Ji is remembered in history as the brave warrior who crossed seven seas to protect the nation’s honour and self-respect. His extraordinary sacrifice continues to inspire generations to serve the country. She said that on his martyrdom day, the nation salutes one of India’s greatest sons and renews its pledge to follow the path he showed.
The ceremony concluded with a two-minute silence observed in memory of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji, followed by the sounding of the bugle by the police as a mark of respect.
