Voter Registration and Awareness Camp Organised at SMHS Government College, Mohali

SAS Nagar, August 24:

In compliance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India and in view of the upcoming State Legislative Assembly elections, the SVEEP Committee of SMHS Government College, Mohali, organised a voter registration and awareness camp at the Student Centre on August 24, 2026.

The programme was organised by SVEEP Nodal Officer Prof. Simarpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Physical Education, under the able guidance of Principal Smt. Jaspreet Kaur Bains.

The camp aimed to encourage eligible students, particularly those who have attained the age of 18 years, to register themselves as voters and understand the importance of exercising their right to vote. Students were sensitised about the significance of voting and the crucial role young voters can play in strengthening the democratic process.

Dr. Sunny Ahluwalia, Chief Guest, addressed the students and highlighted the importance of elections in a democratic country. Drawing upon personal examples and practical insights, he motivated the students to participate actively in the electoral process and urged them to exercise their right to vote responsibly to help shape the future of the country.

The programme concluded with an inspiring address by Principal Smt. Jaspreet Kaur Bains, who encouraged the students to become responsible, informed and active citizens. She emphasised that participation in the electoral process is an important responsibility of every citizen and urged all eligible students to register as voters and exercise their democratic rights.

The programme was attended by members of the SVEEP Committee, including Prof. Sarabjeet Kaur, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, Prof. Navneet Kaur, Prof. Gayatri, Prof. Davinder Kumar, Prof. Prabhleen Jassal and Prof. Shabina.

The camp marked an important step towards promoting electoral awareness among the youth and encouraging their meaningful participation in the democratic process.
