The successful organization of the second day of the 7-Day Youth Disaster Friend Scheme (YAMS) training program was held at the Government Polytechnic College, Khunimajra, Mohali. This session was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Shruti Agarwal, Consultant, Disaster Management, MGSIPA, Punjab. Mrs. Shruti Agarwal interacted with the volunteers and provided practical information on staying calm during disaster situations, assessing the situation, establishing effective coordination, and responding correctly.
The heat wave awareness session was conducted by Mrs. Saloni Sharma, where information was shared about the causes of extreme heat, its effects, preventive measures, first aid, and community preparedness.
The basic first aid session was held by Mrs. Gulshan Heera, Training Coordinator, and Mrs. Shaina Kaur, where volunteers were taught basic first aid techniques and how to provide immediate emergency assistance.
The cold wave awareness session was given by Mrs. Jeevanjot Kaur, where information was shared about the effects of extreme cold, vulnerable groups, and essential safety measures.
The earthquake preparedness session was conducted by Mr. Sumit Singh and Mr. Jogesh Sharma, which covered earthquake safety, preparation measures, and response techniques during emergencies. All these sessions included interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, which increased the knowledge, confidence, and disaster response skills of NSS volunteers. This program is preparing volunteers to help society and build a safe and strong community.
