District Magistrate Bans Gatherings of Five or More at Public Places

Moga, 2 July 2025 : District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Moga, Mr. Sagar Setia, has issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, prohibiting the gathering of five or more people in public places, raising of slogans, and holding of meetings in public areas across the district.

However, in special circumstances or on specific occasions, public meetings or religious processions may be allowed, provided the organizers submit a written request and obtain written permission from the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and follow the terms and conditions of the approval.

Mr. Setia stated that such gatherings or rallies without permission may disturb public peace and pose a risk to government and private property. To maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and property, these prohibitory orders have been issued.

This order will not apply to police/army/military personnel, government servants on duty, funeral processions, or wedding gatherings.

Ban on digging or getting dug open wells without permission

The District Magistrate also announced a ban on the digging of open (kacchi) wells in rural or urban areas of Moga without written permission and supervision of the Executive Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Moga.

He said that many accidents and deaths have occurred due to unauthorized digging of such wells, and it is important to prevent such mishaps. These orders will remain in force until 31 August 2025.

To maintain public order, the District Magistrate has imposed a ban on assemblies of five or more individuals in public areas across the district.
