Fatehgarh Sahib, 28 Aug 2025 : The district administration and police are fully prepared to make Fatehgarh Sahib a “stubble-burning-free” district. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind today while addressing a meeting with officials at the District Administrative Complex regarding measures to prevent stubble burning during the upcoming paddy harvesting season. She said that due to the combined efforts of the administration and the wholehearted cooperation of farmers in the past two years, there has been a significant decline in stubble burning incidents, and this year the target is to completely eliminate such cases.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that to strictly curb incidents of stubble burning, nodal officers, cluster officers, and special vigilance teams are being appointed in villages. She directed officials from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Cooperation Department, and Police Department to start sensitizing farmers and landowners in villages from now onwards about the damage caused to Mother Earth and the environment by burning stubble, and to contribute proactively towards eradicating this harmful practice. She also instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and DSPs to continuously lead this campaign in their respective areas and to take necessary steps to honor progressive farmers who adopt stubble management practices. She appealed to environmentally conscious farmers to voluntarily ensure stubble management and become role models for others.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh mentioned that to encourage farmers, various machines including Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder, Baler, Rake, Mulcher, Paddy Chopper Shredder, and RMB Plough are being provided to farmers and farmer groups on subsidy, and farmers will be continuously motivated to use them.
The meeting was attended by SDM Fatehgarh Sahib Arvind Kumar Gupta, SDM Khamano Manreet Rana, SDM Bassi Pathana Harveer Kaur, DSP Hartesh Kaushik, District Revenue Officer Karan Gupta, PPCB Executive Engineer Mohit Singla, along with other officers from different departments.
