Fazilka, 25 Sep 2025: For those interested in obtaining temporary licenses for the sale of firecrackers during Diwali and other festivals, applications can be submitted between September 29, 2025, and October 3, 2025. District Magistrate Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu stated that applications can be submitted at service centers across the district. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
It is noteworthy that, in compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, in Civil Writ Petition No. 23548 of 2017, the bursting of firecrackers will only be permitted during the following times:
- On Diwali (October 20, 2025): from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- On Gurpurab: from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM and from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- On Christmas and New Year: from 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM
The draw for issuing temporary licenses will be held on October 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the meeting hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Fazilka. Only successful applicants from the draw will be issued temporary licenses.
The District Magistrate further informed that applicants must be at least 18 years old. A total of 67 temporary licenses will be issued in the district: 18 in Fazilka, 25 in Abohar, 18 in Jalalabad, and 6 in Arniwala Sheikh Subhan. The sale timings for license holders will be from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Any violation of the guidelines will result in action by the Police Department under the Explosives Rules, 2008.
The designated places for the sale of firecrackers in the district are as follows:
- Fazilka: Multipurpose Sports Stadium, M.R. College Road, Fazilka (excluding the playground area)
- Abohar: PUDA Colony, Fazilka Road, Abohar
- Jalalabad: Multipurpose Sports Stadium, Jalalabad (excluding the playground area)
- Arniwala Sheikh Subhan: Panchayat land adjoining Police Station Arniwala Sheikh Subhan
