Chikungunya Cases Surge in Punjab District, Affecting Nearly Every Household

Barnala November 26, 2025  : The city of Barnala is currently battling a severe outbreak of chikungunya. With new cases emerging every day, it is becoming evident that every second person in the city is affected by this disease. Because of this dangerous viral infection, people are suffering from unbearable joint pain after high fever. However, the local health department is trying to hide the exact number of patients, which makes the ground reality appear even more alarming.

Every second household affected

The situation in Barnala city has become extremely serious. Different localities of the city are witnessing a continuous rise in chikungunya cases. It is estimated that almost every second household has fallen victim to this disease. High fever, unbearable joint pain, and skin rashes are the main symptoms, due to which life has become extremely difficult. Many people, even after the fever subsides, are unable to get out of bed and continue suffering from joint pain that may last for months. This infection has severely impacted people’s work and daily life, causing both economic and social losses.

Main cause: filth and mosquito infestation

The rapid spread of chikungunya in Barnala is mainly due to dirt and the breeding of mosquitoes, which is being neglected.

  • Stagnant dirty water: At many places in the city, dirty water is collected, creating ideal breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed even in clean water and bite during the daytime.
  • Negligence of people: While the administration is at fault, local residents are also being accused of not cooperating with the municipal corporation and not maintaining cleanliness around their homes, which is allowing the infection to spread.

Prevention more important than treatment

Chikungunya spreads through the bite of the Aedes mosquito. According to experts, prevention is the most effective way to control chikungunya because there is no specific medicine or vaccine available for it.

Treatment:

Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, including adequate rest and fluid intake. Medicines like paracetamol are taken on a doctor’s advice to control fever and pain.

Preventive Measures:

  • The administration must conduct fogging and spray mosquito-control chemicals regularly.
  • Citizens should ensure no water collects in or around their homes. Empty coolers, flower pots, and broken containers regularly.
  • Use mosquito nets and repellents to prevent mosquito bites.

To fight chikungunya, both the health department and the general public must work together. Only then can Barnala be freed from this severe crisis.

Summary:
A Punjab district faces a sharp rise in chikungunya cases, with numerous households reporting symptoms, prompting urgent health warnings and intensified preventive measures by authorities.
