Chandigarh, November 26, 2025: Wednesday is expected to be a challenging day for the Chandigarh Police. On one hand, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will gather at the Dussehra Ground in Sector-43 to mark the 5th anniversary of their movement. On the other hand, the “Save Panjab University Front” has announced a complete shutdown of the university. Chandigarh Police have made strict security arrangements at both locations. Due to these events, the city may face crowding, traffic jams, and increased security challenges.
A total of 3,000 Chandigarh Police personnel will be deployed on duty. IG Pushpendra and SSP Kanwardeep Kaur will personally oversee the security arrangements. The police have granted permission to farmer organizations to hold a peaceful rally at the Sector-43 Dussehra Ground. According to police estimates, around 10,000 protesters associated with more than 30 farmer organizations from across the country may arrive in Chandigarh from Punjab, Haryana, and neighboring states. Strict security measures have also been put in place at the city borders. Barricades have been installed all around the Dussehra Ground.
Around 1,500 personnel will be deployed at the location itself. Additionally, 3 DSPs and 6 Inspectors have been assigned responsibilities there. Farmers are not allowed to move beyond the Dussehra Ground. Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said the purpose of the rally is to mark the 5th anniversary of the SKM movement and reiterate their pending demands, including legal guarantee for MSP, withdrawal of registered cases, and compensation for families of farmers who were martyred during the protest.
Summary:
Chandigarh braces for major disruption as 10,000 farmers plan to enter the city. Police will be deployed everywhere to maintain order and manage possible unrest.
