Malerkotla, July 29:

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Malerkotla district has delivered an outstanding performance in the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025, securing 19th rank across India, 2nd rank in the North Zone, and 1st rank in Punjab, bringing pride to both the district and the state.

Congratulating the entire team of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation on this remarkable achievement, Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tirke said that the success is the result of the department’s visionary planning, continuous monitoring, effective implementation, and sustained efforts at the village level. He also extended special congratulations to Er. Gurvinder Singh Dhindsa, the then Executive Engineer (XEN), Water Supply and Sanitation Department (currently serving as SC, Sangrur), stating that under his leadership the department successfully took the cleanliness campaign to the grassroots and achieved excellent results.

The Deputy Commissioner said that, in collaboration with Gram Panchayats, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, and the local community, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation undertook effective initiatives for solid and liquid waste management, improved sanitation, the creation of plastic-free villages, public awareness campaigns, and bringing about a positive change in people’s attitude towards cleanliness. These efforts received wholehearted support from villagers and social organizations, enabling Malerkotla to earn this prestigious recognition at the national level.

He further stated that this honour is not the achievement of a single department alone but reflects the collective efforts of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, the district administration, Gram Panchayats, sanitation workers, self-help groups, youth, and the people of the district. He appreciated the department’s significant role in transforming cleanliness into a people’s movement.

Expressing confidence, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation will continue to work with the same commitment in the future, setting new benchmarks in cleanliness, environmental conservation, and sustainable waste management, while playing a key role in keeping Malerkotla among the country’s leading clean districts.
