5 Aug 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University (SBSSU), Ferozepur, organized a Tree Plantation Drive as a part of Induction Program-2026 to promote environmental awareness and inspire newly admitted students to contribute towards a greener and healthier environment. The plantation drive was organized in association with the Red Ribbon Clubs, Eco-Friendly Group of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University under the guidance of the Youth Services Department, District Ferozepur. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from first-year students, faculty members, university officials, and volunteers.
During the drive, 100 fruit bearing saplings of different varietieswere planted at various locations across the university campus. The saplings were generously donated by Lions Club Ferozepur Satluj and the Forest Department, District Ferozepur. Students were also offered refreshment by Lions Club Ferozepur Satlujduring tree plantation drive. The plantation included a variety of fruit trees aimed at enhancing the green cover of the campus while promoting biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
Addressing the students, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma emphasized on the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change. Prof. Sharma encouraged the students to adopt environmentally responsible practices and actively participate in conservation activities throughout their academic journey.
Ms. Bhupinder Kaur Sandhu, Senior Vice President, Punjab Women Wing, AAP, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She encouraged the students to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives and appreciated the efforts of the University authorities for organizing such awareness programmes University students.
University Registrar Prof. Rajiv Arora also expressed its sincere gratitude to Lions Club Ferozepur Satluj and the Forest Department, District Ferozepur for their generous support and valuable contribution to the success of the plantation drive. Prof.Rajiv Arora lauded the efforts of Gurjeevan Singh and Gurpreet Singh- both Nodal Officers of Red Ribbon Clubs and Jagmeet Singh- Incharge Horticulture and Eco friendly group of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University for remaining dedicatedly active in environmental awareness and conservation programmes.
