Amargarh/Malerkotla, August 7:
Amargarh MLA Prof. Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra strongly advocated for reforms in school education while presenting two important Private Members’ Resolutions during the 13th session of the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly. He raised key issues concerning the future of Punjab’s youth, emphasizing that education and youth development are the foundation of a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant Punjab.
Speaking on the resolutions, Prof. Gajjanmajra said that the need of the hour is to move beyond textbook-based learning and make school education more practical and relevant to everyday life. He recommended that the Punjab Government introduce a special, practical curriculum in schools covering subjects such as:
- Drug abuse prevention and awareness
- Healthy lifestyle practices
- Self-employment and entrepreneurship
- Financial literacy
- Personality development
- Life skills
He said that in today’s highly competitive world, academic qualifications alone are not enough. Skills, self-confidence, decision-making ability, and strong moral values are equally important. Preparing students from an early stage to face life’s challenges, he added, would enable them to make meaningful contributions not only to their own lives but also to society and the nation.
Prof. Gajjanmajra also suggested that schools should regularly organize motivational lectures by renowned scholars, social workers, successful entrepreneurs, industrialists, and distinguished personalities from various fields. Such interactions, he said, would inspire students through real-life experiences and help them gain the guidance and confidence needed to achieve their goals.
He also expressed special gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, stating that their sincere efforts have helped Punjab secure the top position in the country in the field of education. He further emphasized the need to formulate future-oriented plans that would prepare Punjab’s students to compete successfully at the international level.
