Nifty 50, Sensex Prediction Today: How Indian Stock Market May Trade on August 24

24  Aug 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Indian equity markets are expected to remain cautious and range-bound on August 24, with crude oil prices, U.S. sanctions on Iran, global bond yields and foreign fund flows likely to influence trading sentiment. The Nifty 50 and Sensex opened with modest gains on Monday, but analysts expect volatility to remain elevated.

Nifty 50, Sensex Open Slightly Higher

The Nifty 50 rose around 0.14% to 24,285.6, while the Sensex gained 0.19% to 77,691.65 in early trade.

The gains followed a weaker previous week, when Nifty and Sensex declined about 0.5% and 0.6%, respectively, as higher crude prices and global bond yields reduced risk appetite.

Key Resistance for Nifty

Technical analysts are watching the 24,350–24,400 zone closely.

A decisive move above this resistance area could strengthen the bullish momentum and open the way towards higher levels. However, failure to break the zone could keep the index trapped in a consolidation range.

On the downside, the broader 24,000–24,250 range is an important area to watch if buying momentum fades.

Crude Oil Remains a Major Risk

Crude oil continues to be one of the biggest drivers for Indian markets.

Brent crude was hovering around $93 a barrel, with geopolitical tensions and the prospect of tougher U.S. sanctions on Iran keeping energy markets under pressure. Higher oil prices are negative for India because the country depends heavily on imported crude and can face increased inflation and pressure on the trade balance.

U.S. Sanctions on Iran in Focus

Investors are closely monitoring the U.S. government’s expected announcement of new sanctions against Iran.

The measures have been described by U.S. officials as potentially the “toughest sanctions in history.” Iran, meanwhile, has threatened to disrupt oil exports from the Gulf if economic pressure escalates.

Any sharp escalation could push crude prices higher and trigger another bout of risk aversion across global markets.

Foreign Investor Buying Provides Some Support

Foreign portfolio investors have recently returned to Indian equities.

FPIs invested roughly ₹23,544 crore in Indian equities during August, according to recent reports, providing an important source of support for domestic benchmarks.

However, analysts remain cautious because geopolitical uncertainty and high oil prices could quickly change global risk sentiment.

Rupee Movement Also Important

The Indian rupee remains under pressure from elevated oil prices and broader dollar-market conditions.

The currency recently settled around ₹95.67 per U.S. dollar, while RBI intervention around the ₹95.80 level has helped limit excessive volatility.

A weaker rupee can add to imported inflation and increase concerns about India’s current-account position.

IT Stocks Could See Some Relief

IT stocks could remain in focus after suffering losses during the previous week.

The sector rebounded around 0.8% in early Monday trading as investors assessed global rate expectations and the outlook for U.S. technology spending.

However, sustained gains may depend on U.S. bond yields and signals from the Federal Reserve.

What Traders Should Watch Today

Key factors likely to influence the Nifty 50 and Sensex include:

  • Brent crude and global oil prices
  • U.S. sanctions on Iran
  • Geopolitical developments in the Middle East
  • U.S. Treasury yields
  • Rupee-dollar movement
  • FII and DII activity
  • Global equity markets
  • Federal Reserve rate expectations
  • Sector-specific corporate developments
  • Technical levels around Nifty 24,350–24,400

Market Outlook

The near-term setup remains cautiously positive but range-bound. A sustained move above 24,350–24,400 could improve sentiment, while failure to clear resistance may result in continued consolidation.

Given the elevated geopolitical and oil-price risks, analysts are favouring selective buying and hedged positions rather than aggressive directional bets
